Ceiling is raised for bursary support

Wolverhampton Grammar School’s decision to increase is bursary ceiling level has enabled many more families to consider applying for Governors' aided support.

WGS’s Governors' Bursaries vary according to the level of family income and this year, the school has worked hard to ensure that the threshold for families who can be considered for a bursary has been increased.

“From this year, families with a household income of up to £60,000 per annum can apply for a Governors' Bursary,” explains Vincent Darby, Head of WGS. “This figure is significantly higher than in previous years because we wanted as many families as possible to have the opportunity to apply for support.”

WGS has always been proud of its standing in the community; that is why as an independent school, it works hard to maintain a robust bursary fund.

“We have a number of bursary awards available to support families who could not otherwise afford a place at the school,” continues Mr Darby. “Governors’ Bursaries are awarded to those children who we think show potential to achieve academically and will make a positive contribution to the school.”

In addition to Governors’ Bursaries, WGS has an impressive number of scholarships available. Eight will be given at 11+ to the children who score most highly in the entrance test, with further scholarships for music and science available at ages 13+ and 16+.

“We see our scholarship and bursary programme as vital in helping us to continue to serve the people and city of Wolverhampton, as we have done as the Grammar School since 1512,” concludes Vincent Darby.
