Rugby Squad take up Olympic Challenge
Members of WGS’s 1st XV squad recently went along to local BMW dealership, Benham to take up the challenge set by one of GB’s brightest Olympic cycling prospects.
Wolverhampton born Andy Tennant, a European gold medallist, is being sponsored by Benham, BMW in his bid to become part of the 2012 GB Olympic cycling squad. As part of the invited audience, the WGS rugby players were able to put their questions to Andy on his background, training regime and his bid for an Olympic place, before taking to the saddle to start off the Benham cycle challenge in which participants are being invited to the Benham showrooms to pedal a static bike 1000 miles between now and the start of the London Olympic Games 2012.
“It was a superb experience for our players to meet and put their questions to an Olympic athlete. The cycling was great fun and hopefully the efforts of our players has helped the challenge get off to a really strong start,” commented Mr Ryan, Coach of the First XV squad.
“Andy Tennant was happy to get involved, signing photographs and talking with members of the rugby squad about performance in sport. He was even introduced to ‘lineout lifting’ by the boys, who were very careful to put him down safely!”
Proceeds from the Benham BMW Olympic Cycling challenge will go to support three important charities: British Heart Foundation, Promise Dreams and Get Kids Going.
