Students celebrate A Level results

It was definitely a case of the glass being half full at Wolverhampton Grammar School today after half of its A Level cohort were able to celebrate achieving A* or A grades.

Overall, passes at grades A* - B were an excellent 75 percent. In addition, WGS students also achieved an impressive number of passes at the new A* grade.

Head of WGS, Mr. Vincent Darby comments: “For half of our students to have gained an A grade or above is a wonderful achievement. The new A* grades are awarded to candidates achieving over 90 percent in their final exams, so for our students to have achieved significantly above the national average at this grade shows the level of hard work and effort that they have put in.

“I am extremely pleased for all our A Level students who have worked so hard to achieve such excellent results. They thoroughly deserve our congratulations.”

Head of Sixth Form, Mark Benfield is clear on what his students have achieved: “These excellent results represent a remarkable achievement for the school and mean that the majority of WGS students have once again secured a place at a university of their choice.

“Today is a day to celebrate the achievements of our students; their successes have been hard earned and thoroughly deserved.”

83 students sat A Levels at WGS, achieving:

  • 48 percent passes at grade A* - A
  • 75 percent at grades A* - B
  • An overall pass rate of 99.2 percent
