27 August 2009

Students at Wolverhampton Grammar School gained an average of over nine A* - C passes at GCSE this year, with 40 per cent of students achieving an A* - A in eight or more subjects.  Passes at A* and A were 58 per cent, retaining the high standards of the previous year.

“This year’s GCSE cohort worked extremely hard throughout the year and it is so pleasing to see how all that hard work has paid off,” comments WGS Head, Vincent Darby. “These excellent results are once again testament to the commitment and dedication of a superb group of young people and I would like to congratulate them all.”

There were several notable achievements for individual students in WGS’s results including  six youngsters: Richard Bates, Jessica Carty, David Jackson, Jordan Moxey, Stephanie Thomas and Jenny Wilson who all achieved nine A* grades.

Deputy Head, Peter Hills comments;

“We are delighted that our students have excelled once again.  As competition for higher education places continues to grow, GCSE results are becoming increasingly important when it comes to securing a place at a top university. This year’s excellent results will once again provide our students with a platform for success and we are looking forward to working with them once again as they embark on the next stage of their education in the sixth form.”
