Record GCSE results for WGS

Wolverhampton Grammar School is celebrating its best ever GCSE results after more than a third of its students achieved A* grades – an increase of 10 percent on last year’s figures. In addition, almost 70 per cent of all WGS students achieved an A grade or above, up from 59 percent in 2009.
Overall WGS achieved 99 percent pass rate at grades A* – C. Sciences were particularly strong with 146 A*s being awarded for physics, chemistry and biology.
“This has been a fantastic year for our GCSE students. Our figures have increased across the board, highlighting just how hard our students have worked,” comments WGS Head, Vincent Darby.
“We have an incredibly talented group of students here at WGS and these excellent results are testament to their commitment and dedication, and I would like to congratulate them all.”
There were several notable achievements within WGS’s results including 21 students gaining 10 or more passes at A* and seven students; Ashwin Abraham-Thomas, Elizabeth Bamford, Aaron Batth, Jacob Cunningham, Alistair Macaulay, Kyle Reed, Paawan Sharma who each gained 10 A*s.

103 students sat GCSEs at WGS and achieved:
- 99% passes A* - C
- 69% passes A* - A
- 34% passes A*
- 11 students gaining 8 or more passes at A*
- 21 students gaining 10 or more passes at A* or A
