Junior School

WGJS is a community where everyone achieves.

Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School

At WGJS, we pride ourselves on treating every child as a unique, individual person. Our number one focus is pupil happiness, and children have a thorough understanding of the meaning of wellbeing and how to improve it. Our small class sizes, with single-form entry at infants, mean that your child gets the individual attention they deserve. This said, our key stage two cohorts are large enough to support choirs, orchestras, and the usual football, cricket and netball teams.

It is our aim to help your child to succeed in the modern world. As such, technology plays a key aspect in our classroom learning, and every child from Year 3 upwards has access to their own school iPad. As expected, academic standards are high, and WGJS’ end of year assessment results are significantly above the independent school national average. Outside the classroom, all children learn to read music, with whole-class instrumental lessons running throughout different year groups. Similarly, on the sports field, we strive to create the perfect balance of celebrating excellence with ensuring inclusivity.

Children flourish at WGJS in a kind, caring, and supportive environment. We only have three school rules: we are always kind, we are always polite, and we always try our best. I am delighted you are considering joining a school that strives for every day to be a happy, creative, and rewarding one.

Academic success

No child at Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School goes unnoticed. Our small class sizes allow for individualised learning which enables your child to thrive.

We incorporate digital learning into the classroom – not at the expense of books and face-to-face teaching but to enhance traditional teaching methods. Every child in Year 3 upwards has their own iPad and this allows them to engage with the lesson at their own pace, develop their own recording and investigative skills and master the digital skills that will set them up for the modern world.

Exceptional Pastoral Care

Whether entering Reception or Years 1 to 6, your child will receive the very best pastoral care at WGJS.

We promote a close knit community where children know there is always a trusted adult they can speak to if they have any worries. We abide by our Junior School rules to always be kind, polite and try our best, recognised in our Rewards system. This is further supported by the 3 Cs - Care, Courtesy and Consideration, which we strive to show to each other at all times and make WGJS the happiest place it can be.

Life-changing residentials

Residential trips are offered to all pupils in Year 2 upwards and these are clearly a highlight of their time in the Junior School.

Pupils will find themselves challenged by outward bound activities but relishing the sense of achievement that follows them pushing themselves beyond their comfort zone. These trips build essential teamworking skills and resilience.
