WGS’ Careers and Networking Fair

WGS’ Careers and Networking Fair is key in shaping our students futures

WGS’ annual Careers and Networking Fair provides our students with an opportunity to develop their professional networks for their futures. It is our biggest careers event of the year.

At our latest event, we welcomed a wide range of further education, higher education and apprenticeship providers to engage directly with our students. In addition, there were a range of employers representing a wealth of industry sectors, including healthcare, finance, law, IT, engineering, the creatives and the public services. We were delighted to host employers from high profile companies, such KPMG, NHS, Jaguar Landrover, Tecman, Higgs LLP, Barhale and GMI Construction amongst many others. Among these were our alumni, allowing our students the opportunity to talk to successful industry professionals who were once in their shoes at our very own school!

The event was a tremendous success. Our students found it incredibly informative- an opportunity which exposed them to career pathways and job roles they wouldn't have otherwise considered. It was a great opportunity to broaden their horizons, diversify their aspirations and gain bespoke guidance for their career goals.

One of the most significant benefits of our careers fair is that it brings careers information to the doorstep of the students. Rather than having to research different career paths or institutions online, students were able to have face-to-face conversations with people who work in the roles that they aspire to. This personal interaction allows them to ask questions, gain insights into different career routes, and receive advice that is both practical and inspiring.

For many students, our careers fair sparked new interests. Conversations with professionals from industries such as renewable energy, construction and the applied sciences opened their eyes to new possibilities. Others found reassurance in speaking with university representatives or current apprentices who had recently been in their shoes, helping them to make more informed choices about their next steps.

One of the most powerful aspects of our careers fair is how it helps our students in building confidence. Engaging with adults in a professional setting gave students a sense of agency and responsibility for their futures. Many commented on how empowered they felt after discussing their aspirations, learning about qualifications needed, and even hearing about the challenges others had overcome in their careers. For students who may be uncertain or anxious about life after school, this interaction is transformative.

Complimenting our annual Careers and Networking Fair is our robust, overall careers programme, which will give our students further opportunities for careers related learning. We look forward to supporting our students to flourish with bespoke careers support at WGS!
