Outstanding A-Level results
We are proud to celebrate yet another year of exceptional A-Level results, with students once again securing places at leading universities and degree apprenticeships across the UK.
With a school-wide culture of transforming lives as well as minds, students at WGS have achieved grades that reflect both their hard work and the school’s commitment to academic excellence. An impressive 44% of the 2025 A Level cohort were awarded with an A*/A.
Over 74% of all grades awarded were A* to B, one of the highest sets of results in the last 10 years, reinforcing the school’s position as one of the region’s leading independent Sixth Forms.
Many students have confirmed offers from prestigious institutions including Cambridge, Russell Group universities on competitive courses such as Medicine, Law and Engineering.
All students who pursued Cambridge Technical qualifications in Sport and Physical Education or Information Technology excelled, with 100% of students in the latter gaining at least a distinction.
The results in brief:
- 100% pass rate across all A Level and Cambridge Technical Qualifications
- 44% A* and A awarded at A Level
- 76% A* – B awarded at A Level
- 100% of students gained a Merit or higher in the Cambridge Technicals
- 22% students achieved straight A/A*s at A Level
- 100% of Cambridge Technical Information Technology candidates achieved a distinction

Wolverhampton Grammar School is celebrating another year of exceptional GCSE results, with 79% of all exams awarded the top grades of 9 to 6 (equivalent to A* to B).
This year’s results show exceptional achievement across the curriculum, with standout success in English, Maths and Science, alongside a wide range of creative and technical subjects. In particular, Art, Computer Science and RS saw over 60% of students awarded grades 9 and 8’s.
The headlines in brief are:
79%
of GCSE entries at Wolverhampton Grammar School have been awarded the top grades of 9 to 6 (A* to B equivalent).
42%
of entries were rewarded with the top two grades, 9 and 8.
25%
of students achieved a remarkable 10 or more GCSEs at grade 9 or 8.
GCSEs play an increasingly important role in enabling both universities and employers to assess an applicant’s academic ability and potential. GCSEs act as a useful benchmark for universities in particular, for example, a university degree course offering a year abroad option would usually require a language at GCSE.
In 2025:
- 79% grade 9, 8, 7 or 6 awards (equivalent to A* to B)
- 42% coveted Grade 9s and 8s awarded this year
- 25% of students achieved 10 or more GCSEs at grade 9 or 8.
To achieve the top grade of 9 takes a combination of excellent teaching, hard work and determination. Happy students do well and for so many of our students to achieve 9, 8 or 7s is a credit to their brilliant teachers and the extraordinary pastoral support in place at School.
Our Sixth Form students have the opportunity to study at least three subjects from a range of 20+ A Level and Cambridge Technical courses, with some choosing to go the extra mile with a fourth subject.
