WGS is a vibrant and diverse community

School fees cover a full day from 8.00am to 5.30pm, extra-curricular clubs, most compulsory curricular school trips, and personal accident insurance.

We recently asked ourselves if our staff and students were leaving a part of their identities at the school gates? Commissioning Staff and Student Belonging surveys helped to give voice to every member of our community, enabling us to make sure everyone is both seen and heard and students and staff came together to draw up the following values statement:

WGS is an inclusive and inspiring community built on individuality, respect, equity and kindness.

Our Staff and Student EDI Champions have been working together to explore how we may improve the visibility of every member of the School community, resulting in a diverse range of activities and events (masterminded by our committed and caring students) that acknowledge and celebrate our unique characteristics, cultures and backgrounds.

Black History Month, World Mental Health Day, LGBTQ+ History Month, Ramadan and South Asian Heritage Month are just some of the things we are marking, alongside our own diversity event: We Are WGS Week.

We have also run Student Voice, with a group of Sixth Form students who meet with advocates from every form group to discuss themes and issues relevant to our students.

We host “Big Conversations”  where students come together to discuss the issues related to the nine protected characteristics they all learn about in their Wellbeing lessons – the idea behind this is to talk more openly about the difficulties people face and to explore ways we can be more accepting, understanding, and supportive.

We are proud to be one of the oldest schools in the country but forward-looking in our approach.

Children thrive under our exceptional pastoral care, award-winning leadership and outstanding learning opportunities. Class sizes are deliberately small and classrooms are bright and airy, creating a wonderful learning environment for all.

Ages 11 – 16

Many new students join us in Year 7 and benefit from a full induction ahead of starting. The House system from Year 8 upwards is an extension of our pastoral care and central to school life. Our students consistently perform well in GCSE and A Level examinations and we are extremely proud of them.

Ages 16 – 18

As young adults, our Sixth Formers enjoy studying and socialising in their own Sixth Form Centre, bringing with it greater independence, support from the Sixth Form team and House tutors, the advantages of small teaching groups, and the opportunity to take on leadership and volunteer roles.
