Wolverhampton Grammar School is celebrating another exceptional set of GCSE results

Leading Wolverhampton school celebrates 97% 9-4 GCSE results

Wolverhampton Grammar School is celebrating another exceptional set of GCSE results, with 97% of all examinations awarded grades 9–4 (equivalent to A*–C), while more than half (57%) of high-achieving students secured 9 or more GCSEs at grades 9-7 (equivalent to A*–A).

Following an outstanding set of A Level results, with 72% of grades awarded A*–B and 45% A*–A, the latest GCSE results provide further evidence of the academic excellence achieved by students at Wolverhampton Grammar School.

The results reinforce WGS’s position as one of the West Midlands’ leading independent schools, where students are encouraged to fulfil their academic potential, discover their strengths and develop the confidence to achieve their ambitions.

This year’s Year 11 students excelled across a broad range of subjects, with particularly impressive results in the sciences, mathematics and art.

Exceptional results across the curriculum

There was outstanding achievement across the STEM curriculum, with 56% of grades in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology awarded at grades 9–7.

The Art Department continues to provide an exceptional environment in which students can develop their creativity, technical skills and individual artistic voice. This year, 100% of GCSE Art grades were awarded at grades 9–7, while 100% of A Level Art grades were awarded A*–B, including an outstanding 48% at A*. Students work across three dedicated art workshops, a specialist photography studio and a dedicated Sixth Form art studio, giving them the space and resources to explore a wide range of creative disciplines.

Acting Head Mr Peters said:

What a wonderful sight it was this morning to see our Year 11 students celebrating as they discovered just how well they had done. It is a real privilege to share in such a moment and hugely rewarding to see such a stellar set of results from this brilliant year group.

Their achievements are thoroughly deserved. They are a talented cohort who have worked incredibly hard. We are enormously grateful to our expert and dedicated staff for their support, as well as to our parents for the encouragement they have given their children throughout their time at WGS. Above all, we are immensely proud of our students and look forward to seeing them take their next steps.

Next steps

For students continuing into Sixth Form, WGS offers the freedom to shape an education around individual strengths and ambitions.
