Wolverhampton Grammar School has kicked off the National Year of Reading 2026’s Go All In campaign with two unforgettable author events that left students inspired and brimming with creativity.
Donna David inspires young readers
Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 had an awesomely adventurous time with author Donna David, as she launched her latest children’s book, The Awesomely Adventurous Librarians. Donna shared what inspired her to become an author, led the children in a special story time reading, and encouraged them to bring the story to life by acting out the roles of the many professionals involved in turning her idea into a published book. Students also had the chance to purchase signed copies of Donna’s book at the end of the event, making it a truly memorable experience for our youngest readers.
A huge thank you to Donna David for an incredible visit, to Oxford University Press for partnering with us, and to Lane Green First School and Birches First School for joining in the fun.

Holly Webb challenges Year 7 to go undercover
Meanwhile, Year 7 students stepped into the world of spies with bestselling and award-winning author Holly Webb as she launched A Good Girl’s Guide to Spying, the first book in her Rose Patrol Mystery series. Holly shared fascinating insights from her research, including the role of the Girl Guides in shaping her youth, the work of MI5 during World War One, and even a hilarious anecdote about her Bull Terrier and some chocolate biscuits! Students then tested their memory and undercover agent skills in a fun round of Kim’s Game and were able to purchase signed copies of Holly’s book afterwards.
We are grateful to Holly Webb for a wonderful afternoon, Rock the Boat News for partnering with us, and to Goldthorn Park Primary School, Perton Middle School, St Peter’s Collegiate Academy, and St Regis CE Academy for joining the event.
Both events perfectly captured the spirit of the National Year of Reading 2026, inspiring children across Wolverhampton to Go All In with reading, creativity, and imagination.
