WGS Celebrates Black History Month with Award-Winning Author G. M. Linton

Years 6 and 7 at Wolverhampton Grammar School marked Black History Month with an inspiring visit from award-winning author G. M. Linton, best known for her popular Sunshine Simpson series.

During her interactive presentation, G. M. Linton shared her personal journey to becoming a published author, highlighting the pride she feels in showcasing her family’s Jamaican heritage through the adventures of Sunshine and her family. Linton captivated students with stories that not only entertain but also shine a spotlight on cultural identity and history.

A key theme of her talk was the lasting legacy of the Windrush generation in shaping modern Britain. Linton shared the stories of notable Black Britons who have made significant contributions across a variety of fields, encouraging students to reflect on the importance of these pioneers in their own lives.

We were also delighted to welcome students from Highfields School and St Peter’s Collegiate Academy, who joined us in Big School for this special event.

Our heartfelt thanks go to G. M. Linton for a meaningful and thought-provoking tribute to Black History Month. Her visit not only celebrated the richness of Black heritage but also sparked important conversations that will continue throughout the month and beyond.
